Today's post is little different, some of you have been emailing me to write a post about " places to visit in Guwahati" for quite sometime now.. So, in this post I will try give you a bit of information..

Guwahati is the largest city in the state of Assam. It's located beside the mighty Brahmaputra river. Guwahati is also referred as the "gateway to northeast India". This is city is an example of ancient history and modernization.

1. Kamakhya Temple -

Guwahati is the home of so many old temples but kamakhya temple is the most prominent and  visited temple here in Guwahati. This Temple is dedicated to goddess Maa Kamakhya,it is one of the 51 saktipith in India. Maa Kamakhya temple is located in the nilachal nill (there are more then 20 other temples apart from Maa Kamakhya temple in the nilachal hills). This temple hosts the ambubashi mela in the month of July every year. The large number of pilgrims come to seek blessings from Maa Kamakhya in this mela every year from across the country. When you are in Guwahati the Kamakhya maa's darshan is must..

2.Umananda Island-

This island located in the heart of mighty Brahmaputra. Umananda is world's smallest riverine island,it is also known as peacock island. There is a lord Shiva's temple named umnanda temple.
This Shiva temple was built in the island by the well known Shaivaite king of the Ahoms.

Museum is the best place to understand the history and culture of a state or country.
If you want to know about the local folklore and culture, a visit to the Assam State Museum is must do thing, which gives you an authentic taste of the local history and its development through the years.

4.Guwahati Tea Auction Centre -

Assam is famous for its tea production and there is also a tea auction center situated in Guwahati

Technically this place is not in Guwahati but few km away from the city. It's a wildlife reserve located in the Morigaon district of Assam. It's 2 hrs drive from Guwahati to Pobitora. If you are an admirer of wildlife and nature then you should definitely go there while you're in Guwahati.

Accommodation-

You can choose according to your need whether you want stay at a star hotel or a budget hotel. Paltan Bazar is the best place  find hotels for every budget.

Food-

You will find every kind of food whether it's Italian, Chinese,South Indian, North Indian here in Guwahati, like rest of cities in our country but our local Assamese cuisine is something you can't afford to miss. Some of the best restaurants to try Assamese food are -
